Jefferson County issued the following announcement on June 17.

Our hearts are filled with overwhelming grief and outrage over the brutal death of George Floyd at the hands of four Minneapolis police officers who took an oath to protect and serve.

These senseless, violent acts of racial injustice have widespread repercussions. We stand with others in our community in taking action to end racial discrimination. In Jefferson County and elsewhere, peaceful protests amplify the voices of black Americans and other people of color who are victims of injustice. We reject police brutality and racism of all kinds.
