Lacie Wise Earns Education Department’s Exceptional Resident Award

0Comments

Born and raised in Gunnison, Colorado Lacie Wise graduated with honors from Western Colorado University with a Bachelor’s degree in History with teacher licensure and is currently completing her Master’s degree in Education.  Lacie has been immersed in education since she was a child; her mother is a preschool teacher, and her family has always been heavily involved in the schools and the community. During her student teaching, Lacie was mentored by former high school civics teacher Mr. Bob Howard.

Dedication and Motivation

Lacie’s clinical coaches and mentor describe her as extraordinarily dedicated and motivated. She quickly jumped into her residency role and her mentor mentioned that he learned from Lacie almost daily. Undergraduate advisor Barbara Woerner noted that Lacie was an invaluable member of the Future Educators of America club. Others in the department have described her as “always positive” and “tremendously kind.” After completing her residency, Lacie was quickly hired by Gunnison High School as a history teacher. Western is proud of her long-term commitment to education in her home community.

The Exceptional Resident Award

The Exceptional Resident Award is given to one Education student each year who applies a growth mindset in the face of challenges, goes above and beyond to build strong relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, exhibits curiosity and is innovative, and demonstrates leadership.

The Education Department congratulates Lacie for her fine work and is pleased to name her the Exceptional Resident for 2021-2022.
