Juliet Akamboe, a graduate student in the Mineral and Energy Economics program at Colorado School of Mines, has been recognized as one of the 100 Global Inspirational Women in Mining in 2022 by Women in Mining UK.
The biennial publication – now in its fifth edition – highlights the diversity of talent in mining and celebrates women who go above and beyond and serve as role models for future generations of women in the mining sector. A total of 491 women from 61 countries were nominated for the honor this year.
Akamboe is an experienced corporate and investment banker with more than 15 years of experience across global/financial markets, sales and risk management in mining. She was head of Mining & Metals West Africa for the Standard Bank Group, leading many landmark transactions and serving an instrumental role in changing perceptions about mining finance. She led the bank to become the first financial institution to be recognized by the Ghana Chamber of Mines, receiving the inaugural Financial Deal of the Year award at the Ghana Mining Industry Awards.
Akamboe currently lives in Colorado, where she is pursuing a master’s degree in mineral and energy economics at Mines. While in school, she has been involved in research around sustainable finance, building ESG frameworks, securing critical minerals and shaping policy for a more sustainable future.
She is the leader of the Women in Mining (WiM) Ghana speakers’ forum, where she coordinates advocacy programs on gender equality and mainstreaming for the mining sector in West Africa. She is also a member of WiM Denver, where she helps on the Finance and Scholarships committee.
