Tigers

Colorado College Athletics recently issued the following announcement.

Makay Hansen tied his career with six goals and Anders Erickson dished out a career-best seven assists to lead the Colorado College men's lacrosse team to a 17-12 victory over Southwestern University in Sunday's championship game of the 2022 Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference tournament.

CC also earned an automatic berth for the 2022 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship and will learn its destination during the flight back to Colorado.

Hansen and Erickson clicked four times in the second half to help the Tigers turn back the Pirates' comeback attempt.

Declan Maguire struck for three goals and added an assist, while Dylan Brown produced two goals and a pair of assists.

The Tigers appeared to be in complete control after racing to a 6-1 lead, but Southwestern's Nick Doxey scored with 1.5 seconds remaining in the first quarter and then the Pirates scored a pair of man-up goals after Erickson was called for an unreleasable penalty after he was checked into goalkeeper Nate Blair while scoring from the edge of the crease.

The three-point swing allowed Southwestern to get back in the game, but then CC responded with a 5-2 run to build a 10-6 lead when Dylan Wells scored with 14 seconds remaining before halftime.

Brown and Hansen scored early in the third quarter to give the Tigers a six-goal lead for the first time, and Colorado College held a 15-9 cushion when Hansen struck for a man-up marker with 45 seconds to go in the third quarter.

The Pirates made one last push and cut CC's lead in half with the first three goals of the fourth quarter, but Jack Haims ended the run when he scored 33 seconds after the final Pirate goal, and then Hansen closed out the scoring with 5:44 remaining off of a feed from Erickson.

Southwestern won 18 of 33 faceoffs and had a 53-41 edge in total shots.

The Pirates finished with a 53-41 edge in total shots, but The Tigers had 25-21 advantage in shots on goal.

Pat Mahoney made seven saves for Colorado College and improved to 4-0 in goal. Cam Devlin stopped a pair of shots during the final 8:08.

Nate Blair made eight saves for Southwestern.

Matt Caldwell led the Pirates with three goals, while Cody Foster recorded a team-best four points on two goals and a pair of assists.

The Tigers now have claimed six of seven conference tournament crowns, the first five coming as a member of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Colorado College improved to 9-1 in conference tournament games, 6-0 against Southwestern.
