Dear Adams 14 Community,
On Wednesday morning, March 22, two school administrators were shot and injured by a student at East High School in Denver, according to law enforcement.
Adams 14 extends our heartfelt sympathy to the East High School students, staff, and community. Our thoughts are with those affected by this devastating incident. The adverse impact that school violence has on our students, teachers, staff, and community is immeasurable. All communities must join together to put a stop to the violence we have seen in our schools. We must ensure that our children have the safe learning environment that they deserve, and our staff a safe place to educate our students.
Adams 14 works collaboratively with the Commerce City Police Department (CCPD) to address our schools’ needs regarding the safety of our students. The safety and security of our students and staff is our top priority. If anyone has information about violence or threats, please feel free to contact CCPD or Safe2Tell (877-542-7233).
I encourage staff and parents or guardians to visit the National Association of School Psychologists website to learn more about talking with children about violence.
We take our responsibility to educate and keep our students and staff safe very seriously. Please take care of each other.
Sincerely,
Dr. Karla Loría
Adams 14 Superintendent
