Lakewood celebrates Free Fishing Weekend
Lakewood, Colorado - May 25, 2023 – The state’s annual Free Fishing Weekend is back on June 3 and 4, offering people of all ages the perfect opportunity to learn to fish. In collaboration with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the City of Lakewood extends an invitation to participate in this special weekend for a chance to fish for a wide variety of warm and cold-water fish species without the need for a fishing license.

While fishing, protect wildlife and help keep our parks beautiful and safe for all to enjoy by recycling used fishing line in containers provided at fishing areas. These steps ensure that wildlife isn’t entangled or harmed by fishing activities.
Lakewood boasts an array of exceptional fishing locations that are accessible year-round including Bear Creek Reservoir, Main and Smith Reservoirs, and Kendrick Lake. For detailed information about these locations and the fish species you can expect to encounter, please visit Lakewood.org/Fishing. The renowned Bear Creek Reservoir is home to naturally reproducing brown trout, and Colorado Parks and Wildlife stocks the reservoir with rainbow trout each year. Anglers may also find other exciting species such as saugeye, perch, smallmouth bass, and bluegill in the reservoir. Lakewood Park rangers suggest using small worms and PowerBait to entice the prized trout at Bear Creek Reservoir.
